Inspiration for the Carolina Basket
This basket idea was born while staying in a cabin in the mountains of North Carolina for my anniversary trip. I wanted something that would match the rustic charm of the decor in the cabin. I went through the yarn I brought with me, and voila, the basket was created.

#6 Bulky Color A, Color B 200-225 yds
US K (6.5 mm) Hook
Tapestry needle for weaving ends
Gauge:
10 sts x 5 rows = 4″

MR = magic ring
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
BLO = back loop only
rep = repeat
HBhdc = herringbone half double crochet
FPdc = Front post double crochet
sc = single crochet
Special Stitches used for this bulky crochet basket:
HBhdc: yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull through st and first loop on hook, yo, pull through remaining 2 loops.
FPdc: yo, insert hook around post of dc from row below, complete as a dc
Notes:
- Ch 2 does not count as a stitch
- The front posts will cause the basket to look decreased in shape in the middle. Once you put yarn, or whatever you are keeping in basket, it will stretch out.

Row 3: ch 2, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next; rep from * around, join [36]
Row 4: ch 2, *dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next; rep from * around, join [48]
Row 5: ch 2, *dc in next 3 stitches, 2 dc in next; rep from * around, join [60]
Row 6: ch 2, *dc in next 4 stitches, 2 dc in next; rep from * around, join [72]
Row 7: ch 2, HBhdc in each st around, join [72]
Now working through both loops.
Rows 8-9: ch 2 HBhdc in each st around, join. At end of Row 9, change to Color B [72]
Row 10: ch 2, dc in each st around, join [72]
Row 11: ch 2, *FPdc around next st, dc in next st; rep from * around, join [36 FPdc, 36 dc]
