Materials Used in this Chunky Spring Crochet Basket

#6 Bulky- Color A  80 yds, Color B 85 yds

I used Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Bulky {87 yds/80 m/3.5 oz/100 g}

Small amounts of DK-weight in white and yellow/orange for the flower

US K Hook (6.5 mm) – For basket

US F Hook (3.5 mm) – For flower

Tapestry needle for weaving ends

Scissors

Special Stitches Used in this Chunky Spring Crochet Basket

Linked hdc: Insert hook in middle side bar of hdc, yo over and pull through, insert hook in next st, yo, pull through, yo, pull through all 3 loops.

hdc in 3rd lp: place a hdc in 3rd loop of the hdc (found on the inside of the rnd).

Notes:

  • Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.

Helpful Hints:

The daisy may curl. Maybe you like how the curl looks. If not here are some tips to uncurl:

  1. Using blocking board, spray the flower with water. Pin down each petal.
  2. Place the daisy under a heavy book for a day or two.
  3. Slide the daisy inside a towel and run an iron over with or without steam.

Pattern Instructions For Chunky Spring Crochet Basket:

Base of basket:

Rnd 1: With Color A, using a MR or preferred method to make a circle, 12 dc in ring, pull to close, sl st in beg st [12]

Rnds 2-7 are worked in the BLO.

Rnd 2: ch 2, Inc (2 dc) in each st around, sl st in beg st [24]

Rnd 3: ch 2, *dc in next st, Inc in next st; rep from * around, sl st in beg st [36]

Rnd 4: ch 2, *Inc in next st, dc in next 2 sts; rep from * around, sl st in beg st [48]

Rnd 5: ch 2, *dc in next 3 sts, Inc in next st; rep from * around, sl st in beg st [60]

Rnd 6: ch 2, *Inc in next st, dc in next 4 sts; rep from * around, sl st in beg st, changing to Color B [72]

Side of Basket:

Rnd 7: With Color B, ch 2, hdc in 1st st, Linked hdc in each st around, sl st in beg st [72]

Rnds 8-13: ch 2, hdc in 1st st, linked hdc in each st around, sl st in beg st

Rnd 14: ch 2, hdc in the 3rd lp around, sl st in beg st

Rnd 17: With Color A, ch 1, sc in each st around

Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Daisy:

I only made one, but you could choose to put one on front and back of basket. Or make several and place them evenly all the way around.

Rnd 1: With yellow or orange, using MR or your preferred way to make a circle, 12 sc in the ring, pull to close, sl st in the FLO of the beg st, changing to white in final yo

Rnd 2: Now making front petals, working in FLO, *ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 3 ch, sk next st on the main circle, sl st in next st; rep from * 5x with final sl st in beg st

Rnd 3: Now making back betals, working in BLO left from the previous row, sl st in BLO behind 1st petal, *ch 9, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 4 ch, tr in last ch, sk next st on main circle; rep from * 5x with final sl st in beg st

Fasten off. Sew middle part of the daisy to front of basket. Weave in the ends.
