Why Set Crochet Goals?

Crochet goals aren’t about pressure or productivity; they’re about making space for creativity. When life gets busy, crochet is often the first thing pushed aside. Clear, gentle goals help you:

  • Stay motivated during busy seasons
  • Finish projects instead of collecting WIPs
  • Make time for crochet without guilt
  • Enjoy the process and not just the finished piece

Crochet Goal Ideas for the New Year

1. Finish What You Start

Choose 3–5 WIPs to complete before starting something new. Progress feels amazing and frees up mental (and yarn) space.

Goal example: Finish one WIP per month for the first quarter.

Crochet goal to finish a never ending pile of WIPS.

2. Make Time, Not Pressure

Instead of “crochet every day,” aim for consistency that fits real life.

Goal example: Crochet for 10–15 minutes, 3–4 times a week.

3. Focus on Small, Satisfying Projects

Quick wins keep motivation high, especially during busy seasons.

Goal example: One small project per month (ear warmers, dishcloths, ornaments).

4. Set Goals with Purpose

Charity makes, gifts, or home decor projects can add meaning to your time.

Goal example: Donate or gift 6 handmade items this year.

Crochet goal of donating hats. 5 crochet hats in varying colors and sizes.

5. Try Something New (Just One!)

New stitches or techniques can refresh your creativity without overwhelm.

Goal example: Learn one new stitch, texture, or crochet technique this year.

6. Build a Calm Crochet Habit

Let crochet be a form of rest, not another task.

Goal example: Use crochet as a screen-free evening downtime once a week.

How to Set Crochet Goals You’ll Actually Keep

It’s hard sometimes to actually keep the goals we set for ourself. Use the simple suggestions below to help you out.

  • Start small (you can always add more)
  • Focus on enjoyment over output
  • Build goals around time, not quantity
  • Revisit and adjust each season

Remember: your crochet goals should support your life; not compete with it.

This year, let crochet be something you look forward to, not something you rush through. Set goals that feel calm, achievable, and inspiring.

One of my crochet goals this coming year is to try C2C. I’ve watched some videos and practiced a little but haven’t made anything using this technique yet.

Very good post! I don’t know of one crocheter that doesn’t have at least 1 WIP. I have picked up a granny square project that was supposed to be a blanket, but I keep passing over it. Maybe, I can make something smaller with it, and finish it that way!

Yes, I’m sure we all have more than 1. 😀 Way to be positive, and make that WIP into something else! 🎉
