Crochet Mug Rug Set Free Pattern

Materials Needed

Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in “Ecru” 25-30 yds and “Goldenrod” 25-30 yds

US G (4 mm)  hook {I love Furls Streamlines}

Yarn needle

Gauge:

8 Ps=4”

9 Rows=4”

Abbreviations Used {US Terms}

MC=main color

CC=contrasting color

ch=chain

dc=double crochet

sk=skip

ch 1-sp=chain 1 space

yo=yarn over

st=stitch

Ps=pineapple cluster stitch

HBhdc=herringbone half double crochet

Special Stitches Used

Ps{pineapple cluster stitch}= *yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull through* Rep between * 3 times, yo, pull through the first 8 loops on your hook, yo, pull through the 2 remaining loops on hook. Make sure you keep loops loose so you can pull through 8 easily. {See photo tutorial page 3}

HBhdc {herringbone hdc}= yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull through st and first loop on hook, yo, pull through remaining 2 loops.

Pattern Instructions for Crochet Mug Rug Set

Coaster: 4″ x 4″ square

With MC, Ch 15

Row 1: HBhdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, turn [14 HBhdc]

Rows 2-4: ch 1, HBhdc in each st across, changing to CC in last st, turn [14 HBhdc]

Row 5: ch 3, sk first st, *(Ps next st, ch 1, sk next st), across until last st, dc in last st, turn [6 Ps, 6 ch 1-sp, 2 dc]

Row 6-7: ch 3, (Ps, ch 1) in each ch 1-sp, dc in tch, changing to MC in last st, turn [6 Ps, 6 ch 1-sp, 2 dc]

Row 7: ch 1, HBhdc in first dc, Hbhdc in each ch 1-sp and Ps across, HBhdc in tch, turn [14 HBhdc]

Rows 8-10: ch 1, HBhdc in each st across, at end of row 10 do not turn or fasten off.

Do a single crochet border around coaster with 3 sc in each corner.  If you like, add fringe to each side of coaster as I did. Or leave with just the single crochet border and weave in your ends.  Don’t know how to add fringe, try this  Video Tutorial.

Mug Rug: 4″ x 7″

With MC, Ch 27

Row 1: HBhdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, turn [26 HBhdc]

Rows 2-4: ch 1, HBhdc in each st across, changing to CC in last st, turn [26 HBhdc]

Row 5: ch 3, sk first st, *(Ps next st, ch 1, sk next st), across until last st, dc in last st, turn [12 Ps, 12 ch 1-sp, 2 dc]

Row 6-7: ch 3, (Ps, ch 1) in each ch 1-sp, dc in tch, changing to MC in last st, turn [12 Ps, 12 ch 1-sp, 2 dc]

Row 7: ch 1, HBhdc in first dc, Hbhdc in each ch 1-sp and Ps across, HBhdc in tch, turn [26 HBhdc]

Rows 8-10: ch 1, HBhdc in each st across, at end of row 10 do not turn or fasten off.

Single crochet evenly around mug rug with 3 sc in each corner.  Add a 2” tassel to each corner or leave as single crochet border.  Don’t know how to make tassels, try this Video Tutorial.
