What Is Corner to Corner Crochet?

Corner to corner crochet (often called C2C) is a technique where your work your project diagonally. You start in one corner, start creating a triangle, then decrease to the other corner to make a square. Instead of working long rows back and forth like traditional crochet, you’re making small blocks that connect together as you go.

And the good news, each block is usually made from 3 basic stitches you already know:

  • Slip stitches
  • Chains
  • Double crochet stitches

These blocks are joined together to form rows that grow diagonally across your project.

Best Use For This Easy C2C Blanket

As this is a smaller size blanket, it works perfect for charity crochet. Being the perfect size for a lapghan, it’s great to donate to hospitals and nursing homes. It’s useful as a baby blanket as well. To make the blanket smaller or bigger, simply take away blocks or add blocks.

I used Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted. It’s an Aran Medium Weight. I’ve really come to love this yarn. I’ve also used the DK and Bulky versions. It’s soft, works up well, and comes in a variety of colors.

Easy C2C Blanket Instructions

With Color A:

Step 1: For starting and increasing blocks, Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch

Step 2: For middle blocks, sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 3, 3 dc in ch-3 sp

Step 3: Increase your blanket to 52 blocks

Beginning of an easy C2C blanket laying on a wooden table. A crochet hook is nearby.

You’ve made your 52nd block. Now it’s time to decrease. Turn your work.

Step 4: For decreases, sl st in the first 3 dc{This is what I call the “flat”-this makes it easy to tell the difference between the where it is turning into a square and where you still have “bumps” to get rid of}, sl st in the ch-3 sp, ch 3, 3 dc in the ch-3 sp

Step 5: For middle blocks, sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 3, 3 dc in ch-3 sp

Step 6: When you get to the other side, sl st in your last ch-3 sp. You can tell where it is because it’s the last “bump” slightly raised above the “flat.”

Step 7: Continue decreasing down to one block. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 2
