This pattern is for an easy crochet flower applique. A lovely texture will help it stand out in all your handmade projects. Who says flowers are only for spring and summer? Add the January Flower Applique to blankets, pillows, table runners and more to bring some brightness to your home in the long days of winter or anytime.

#4 Cotton Lion Brand 24/7 Small amounts for the applique {Use up your scraps}
US G (4mm) Furls hook, or size needed to obtain tree measurements
Tapestry needle
If you are using this applique for the Every Day Wall Hanging, you will also need:
Large metal sew-on snaps
Plastic Canvas

Abbreviations Used {US Terms}
MR=magic ring
BL=back loops
hdc=half double crochet
ch=chain
sk=skip
dc=double crochet
sc=single crochet
sl st=slip stitch
st(s)=stitch(es)
Special Stitches:
Popcorn: 3 dc in same st, remove loop from hook, insert hook in the first dc made, put loop back on hook and pull through, ch 1 to close
Picot: ch 2, sl st in first ch
Notes:
ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
Every round of flower is worked in the back loops only.

Pattern Instructions
Flower:
Remember all rounds of flower are worked in back loops.
Rnd 1: With MR, ch 2, 6 hdc in ring, pull to close, sl st in first st [6]
Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 popcorn each st around join as before [12 popcorn]
Rnd 3: Work this rnd in top st of popcorn only, not the ch 1, ch 2, *hdc next st, 2 hdc next st; rep from * around, join[18]
Rnd 4: ch 2, *popcorn next 2 sts, 2 popcorns next st; rep from * around, join [24 popcorn]
Rnd 5: Again, working this rnd in top st of popcorn only, not the ch 1, ch 2, *hdc next 3 sts, 2 hdc next st; rep from * around, join [30]
Rnd 6: ch 2, *(2 hdc, picot, hdc) next st, sk next st, sl st next; rep from * around, join [30 hdc, 10 picot] Fasten off.
Leaf: {Make 2}
ch 7, sc 2nd ch from hook, sc next, hdc next 3, 3 dc last ch, working on other side of ch, 3 dc next, hdc next 3, sc last 2, sl st beginning st [16] Fasten off. Leave long tail on one leaf for sewing.
Sew bigger ends of leaves together in a V shape. Sew to one side of flower.
Optional: Steam block the applique
These instructions are for using this applique with the Every Day Wall Hanging.
Using the flower as a template, cut the plastic canvas slightly smaller than the shape. Sew section of metal snap with the nub facing up to the middle of the plastic canvas flower shape. Sew plastic canvas to back of tree with snap facing out.
