Supplies needed for this easy crochet mug cozy and coaster set

#3 DK {You can use cotton, cotton blend, acrylic} My favorite is Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton

Estimated yardage: Color A-30-40 yds, Color B-10-15 yds, Color C-5-10 yds

US G (4 mm) Furls hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Tapestry needle

Gauge:

20 sts x 12 rows = 4”

Skill Level:

This is a super easy pattern so even a beginner can accomplish.

Size: 

Mug Cozy: 11” long, 3” wide {fits a 12” circumference and 4” tall mug}

Coaster: 4” x 4” square

Abbreviation Used: {US Terms}

Fhdc = foundation half double crochet

ch = chain

hdc = half double crochet

sc = single crochet

sl st = slip stitch

st(s) = stitch(es)

BLO = back loop only

ch-1 sp = chain 1 space

Rnd = round

Notes:

These designs are made using 3 team colors. If your team only uses 2 colors or you just want to make a color block cozy and coaster use only Color A and B.

Pattern Instructions for easy crochet mug cozy and coaster set:

Mug Cozy Instructions:

Row 1: With Color A,  Fhdc 48 or ch 49, hdc in 2^nd ch from hook and each ch across, turn [48]

Row 2-3: ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color B at end of Row 3 in last st made

Row 4: With Color B, ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color C in last st made

Row 5: With Color C, ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color B in last st made

Row 6: With Color B, ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color A in last st made

Rows 7-9: With Color A, ch 1, hdc in each st across. Do not turn at the end of Row 9. Do not fasten off. Continue to border.

Border:

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in end of next 9 rows, (sc, ch 1, sc) in 1^st st of Row 1, sc in each st across to last st, (sc, ch 1, sc) in last st, sc in end of next 9 rows, (sc, ch 1, sc) in 1^st st of Row 9, sc in each st across to last st, (sc, ch 1, sc) in last st. sl st to beginning st. [118]

Rnd 2: ch 1, sc around in BLO of each st around with (sc, ch 1, sc) in each ch-1 sp, join with sl st in beginning st. Fasten off. Weave in ends. [122]

With RS facing you {the side facing you when you finished Rnd 2 of border}, join Color A in a corner st on the short side of the cozy. Ch 15, sk all sts between and sl st to the next corner st. Fasten off. Repeat on the other short side. Weave in ends.

These two chain loops will slip over the handle of the mug securing the cozy.

Coaster Instructions:

Row 1: Fhdc 20 or ch 21, hdc in 2^nd ch from hook and each ch across, turn [20]

Rows 2-4: ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color B at end of Row 3 in last st made

Row 5: With Color B, ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color C in last st made

Row 6: With Color C, ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color B in last st made

Row 7: With Color B, ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn, changing to Color A in last st made

Rows 8-11: With Color A, ch 1, hdc in each st across. Do not turn at the end of Row 11. Do not fasten off. Continue to border.

Border:

Ch 1, hdc in end of next 11 rows, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in 1^st st of Row 1, hdc in each st across to last st, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in last st, hdc in end of next 11 rows, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in 1^st st of Row 11, hdc in each st across to last st, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in last st.
