Bring the warm colors and cozy feeling of autumn into your home with these fall crochet baskets! This month’s Harvest Hues Baskets collection gives you two fun options to choose from. A small oval basket using a wooden base and a small circular basket, both crocheted using three beautiful fall-inspired colors. The textured stitches and rich autumn hues make these baskets perfect for adding a seasonal touch to your home while giving you a handy place for your crochet hooks or ornamental faux flowers or grasses.

The Harvest Hues Baskets are the September release in the Basket of the Month CAL, and this month is a little different! Instead of one basket design, you get two shapes to choose from, so you can crochet the oval, the round version, or make both. Each month of the CAL brings a new basket inspired by the season, giving you the opportunity to build a collection of useful and beautiful handmade baskets throughout the year.

HBhdc = herringbone half double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
hdc in 3rd lp = half double in 3rd loop
Inc = increase (2 dc in same st)
Inc =increase (2 sc in same st)
MR = magic ring
rep = repeat
Rnd = Round
Sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sk = skip
st(s) = stitch(es)

Special Stitches-Fall Crochet Baskets:
HBhdc {herringbone hdc}= yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull through st and first loop on hook, yo, pull through remaining 2 loops.
hdc in 3rd lp: place a hdc in 3rd loop of the hdc on the inside of the rnd.
Cable Stitch: This wording is not used in the pattern, but this is how it will be worked. (sk next st, hdc in next 3 sts, yo, insert hook 4 sts back in the skipped st, yo, pull up long loop, yo, finish as hdc)
Notes:
- Both baskets require a 4-stitch multiple.
- Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
- When doing the “Cable” stitch, it’s important you pull up a long loop.
- If you are using the wooden base with holes, you may need to use a smaller hook size for the initial single crochet around.
Helpful Hints:
- If replacing the wooden oval base with a crocheted base, your stitch count will need to be a multiple of 4.
- You can make bigger baskets as well, if your base circle or oval is a multiple of 4.
- The HBhdc can be replace with a regular hdc if you prefer.
- The circle basket makes the perfect container for holding crochet hooks/pens/pencils, etc. You could also slide in a 4” pot to make it sturdier.
- The oval basket makes the perfect vase for dried flowers or faux pampas grasses.
