Yarn used for this granny stitch wall hanging

Using cotton yarn for crochet wall hangings offers several benefits that make it a great choice for this type of project:

  1. Durability: Cotton yarn is strong and long-lasting, ensuring your wall hanging maintains its shape and beauty over time.
  2. Structure: The natural stiffness of cotton helps create clean, defined stitches that hold their shape, perfect for patterns like the granny stitch.
  3. Minimal Stretch: Unlike some synthetic fibers, cotton doesn’t stretch or sag easily, so your wall hanging stays in place and looks polished.
  4. Vibrant Colors: Cotton yarn often comes in a wide range of vibrant colors that resist fading, making your wall hanging pop for years to come.
  5. Texture: Cotton’s smooth texture creates a neat, professional finish and enhances the stitch definition in your design.
  6. Easy Care: Cotton is easy to clean and maintain, so your wall hanging will stay fresh and attractive with minimal effort.
  7. Eco-Friendly: Many cotton yarns are natural and biodegradable, making them a sustainable option for home decor.

A crochet granny stitch wall hanging with wooden beads hangs on a cream wall.
  • Make this wall hanging your own by making the hanging loops longer or shorter. Add more or less beads as desired.
  • Make sure the wooden beads you choose have a hole big enough to insert the loops through.
  • Using a stacked single crochet in place of chain 3 will help keep the sides of your hanging even.

Hanger:

Weave dowel between spaces on Row 34. Tie Color B on one end of dowel. Chain desired number of times you want for length of hanger. Tie off on the other side of the dowel.

Optional Wooden Beads:

Slide wooden beads onto the loops. To do this, I used a small length of scrap yarn, and looped it on the loops. Thread both ends of yarn onto a tapestry needle. Insert the needle through the hole in the bead. Pull scrap yarn through, then slide the bead onto the loop to your desired position. Remove scrap yarn from the needle and repeat with each loop.
