US G (4mm) Hook

12” long dowel or stick

Special Stitches Used in this Spring Crochet Wall Decor:

These two stitches are used only on the bottom border.

Sc3tog: work a sc into next 3 ch or sts indicated, leave one loop of each on hook, yo, pull through all 4 loops

Puff st: yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw up a loop; rep 4 more times, yo, and draw through all 11 loops

Wall Hanging:

With MC, Ch 45

Row 1: sk 2 ch {counts as a sc}, (hdc, dc) next ch, *sk 2 ch, (sc, hdc, dc) next ch; rep from * until 3 ch remain, sk 2 ch, sc last ch [43 sts]

Row 2: ch 1 {counts as sc}, (hdc, dc) same st, *(sc, hdc, dc) in each sc only across until 3 sts remain, sk 2 sts, sc in ch 1 [43 sts]

Rows 3-6: rep row 2

Row 7: ch 5 {counts as dc and ch 2}, *sk 2 sts, dc in the sc, ch 2; rep from * until 3 sts remain, sk 2 sts, dc in tch {15 dc, 28 ch]

Row 8: ch 1, (hdc, dc) first st, (sc, hdc, dc) in each dc across, until 5 ch remain, sk 2 ch, sc in top of ch 3 [43 sts]

Row 9: ch 1 {counts as sc}, (hdc, dc) same st, *(sc, hdc, dc) in each sc only across until 3 sts remain, sk 2 sts, sc in ch 1 [43 sts]

Rows 10-30: rep row 9

Wet blocking your wall hanging at this point before moving on to borders is highly recommended.

Bottom Border: 

Here is where you will use the special stitches Sc3tog and Puff st

Row 1: Join green to RS in row 1, sc across evenly 41 sts, turn

Row 2: ch 8 (counts as dc and ch 5), sk first 4 sts, dc next st, *ch 5, sk 3 sts, dc next st; rep from

* to end, turn, changing to lilac in last st

Row 3: ch 3 (counts as dc), hdc first st, *sc next ch, sc3tog next 3 ch, sc next ch, (hdc, dc, hdc) next st; rep from * until one st remains, (hdc, dc) in last st, turn

Row 4: ch 3 (counts as dc), sk first 3 sts, *(tr, ch 3, tr) in next sc3tog, sk 2 sts, Puff st next dc; rep from * until 3 sts remain, sk 2 sts, dc in tch. Fasten off.

Side Borders:

Join Lilac on RS to row 3 of bottom border, *ch 3, sk one st, sl st next, ch 4, sk one st, sl st next; rep from * to top of hanging, sc across to other side. Rep from * to row 3 of bottom border, sl st into st on row 3. Fasten off.

Appliques For The Spring Crochet Wall Hanging

Tulips

Seedling:

With green, ch 11, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, sc next, hdc next, sl st in same st as hdc, ch 4, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, sc next, hdc next, sl st next 7 on original chain. Fasten off. Leave long tail for sewing.

 Bud:

With MC, ch 5, sc 2^nd ch from hook, hdc next 2, 3 dc in last st, working on other side of ch, hdc next 2, sc last st, sl st in beginning st. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing. 

For stem, join green at bottom of bud, ch 9, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, sl st in next 7 ch, sl st in beginning st. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing.

Front Tulip Petals {Make 2}

With MC, ch 6, hdc 2^nd ch from hook, hdc next, dc next 2, 4 tr last st, working on other side of ch, dc next 2, hdc next 2, st st in beginning st. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing.

Overlap the two petals in a V shape. Sew together. Join green at the bottom of the tulip, ch 13, sc 2^nd ch from hook, and each ch across. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing.

Back Tulip Petal:

With MC, ch 5, hdc 2^nd ch from hook, dc next 2, 3 tr in last st, working on other side of chain, dc next 2, hdc next, sl st in beginning st. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing. Sew to the back of the front petals.

Big Tulip Leaf {Make 2}

With green, ch 15, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, sc next 2, hdc next 2, dc next 4, tr next 5, sl st in first ch on other side of chain. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing.

Small Tulip Leaf {Make 2}

With green, ch 9, sl st 2^nd ch from hook, sc next 2, hdc next 2, dc next 3, sl st in first ch on other side of chain. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing.

Watering Can

Main Body:

Row 1: With color 1 if using 2 colors, ch 11, sc 2^nd ch from hook and each ch across, turn (10)

Row 2-3: ch 1, sc across, turn

Row 4: ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc next 6, sc last 2 sts tog, turn (8)

Rows 5-7: ch 1, sc across, turn

Row 8: ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc next 4, sc last 2 sts tog, turn (6)

Row 9-10: ch 1, sc across, if using two colors change to color 2 in last st of row 10. Do not turn. Ch 1, sc in end of each row down side, sc across 10 ch of row 1, sc in end of each row up other side.

To make handle, turn work so wrong side is facing you. Ch 12, sk 4 sts on side of can, sl st in next st, turn, ch 1, sl st in each ch of handle. You should now be back at the top of the can. Sc across the 6 sts of row 10, sl st in beginning st. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing.

Optional: Using daisy st, embroider flower to center of can.

Spout:

With color 2, ch 9, sc in 2^nd ch from hook, sc next 6, 2 sc last st, working on other side, sc next 7, join with sl st in beginning st. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing. Place one end of spout slightly behind watering can body at a slight slant and sew.

Round Head :

{otherwise known as the “rose”}

With color 1, ch 6, 2 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, sc next 3, 2 sc last, working on other side of chain, sc next 4, sl st in beginning st. Fasten off. Leave tail for sewing. Embroider small dots to represent the water holes Sew to other end of spout.

Attaching Appliques to your Spring Crochet Wall Hanging:

• Sew bud with stem to center of hanging starting on row 8.
• Sew seedling to one side and tulip with stem to the other.
• Sew big leaves and small leaves overlapping the stems on the full tulip and bud.
• Sew watering can in the upper right corner tilted toward the tulips.
• Use blue to embroider dashes coming out of can to represent water.

Attaching Dowel to Wall Hanging

Cut a long piece of CC 1. Insert on needle, knot on the other end. Center dowel at top of wall hanging. Run the needle through each st at top of hanging and around the dowel. 

Hanger:

With your chosen color{I used CC 4 Grass}, ch 71 can be made longer or shorter by adjusting beginning ch , sl st in 2^nd ch from hook and each ch across. Fasten off. Fasten hanger to dowel on each side of the hanging.
