Granny squares are a timeless crochet staple, but sometimes you want to add a little extra flair to your projects. This Clustered Granny Square puts a fresh spin on the classic with alternating rows of the traditional granny stitch and dc3tog clusters, creating a square with a bit more texture and interest. US H Hook (5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge                                                                         

Tapestry needle for weaving ends.

Rnd 1: With Color A, place all the following sts in the MR, ch 3, dc2tog, *ch 2, dc3tog; rep from * 3x, ch 2, pull ring closed, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [4 dc3tog, 4 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 2: With Color B, join in any ch 2-sp (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp; (3dc, ch 2, 3dc) in next 3 ch 2-sp, join in beg st. Fasten off. [24 dc, 4 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 3: With Color A, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, dc2tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in same sp; [ch 2, dc3tog between the 3dc cl, ch 2 (dc3tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in corner ch 2-sp] 3x, ch 2, dc3tog between the 3dc cl, ch 2, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [12 dc3tog, 12 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 4: With Color B, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3dc) in same sp, 3 dc in next 2 ch 2-sp, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch 2-sp, 3 dc in next 2 ch 2 -sp; rep from * 2x, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [48 dc, 4 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 5: With Color A, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, 2dctog, ch 2, dc3tog) in same sp ,[ {ch 2, dc3tog between the 3dc cl} x3, ch 2 (dc3tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in corner ch 2-sp] 3x, {ch 2, dc3tog between 3dc cl} 3x, ch 2, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [20 dc3tog, 20 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 6: With Color B, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp, 3 dc in next 4 ch 2-sp, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch 2-sp, 3 dc in next 4 ch 2-sp; rep from * 3x, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [72 dc, 4 ch2 -sp]

Rnds 7-12

Rnd 7: With Color A, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, dc2tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in same sp, [ {ch 2, dc3tog between 3dc cl} 5x, ch 2 (dc3tog, ch 2 dc3tog) in corner ch 2-sp] 3x, {ch 2, dc3tog between 3dc cl} 5x, ch 2, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [28 dc3tog, 28 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 8: With Color B, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp, 3 dc in next 6 ch 2-sp, *(3dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch 2-sp, 3 dc in next 6 ch 2-sp;  rep from * 3x, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [96 dc 4 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 9: With Color A, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, dc2tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in same sp,

Rnd 11: With Color A, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (ch 3, dc2tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in same sp,

 [ {ch 2, dc3tog between the 3dc cl} 9x, ch 2, (dc3tog, ch 2, dc3tog) in corner ch 2-sp] 3x {ch 2, dc3tog between 3dc cl} 9x, ch 2, sl st in beg st. Fasten off. [44 dc3tog, 44 ch 2-sp]

Rnd 12: With Color B, join in any corner ch 2-sp, (sc, ch 2 sc) in same sp, *sc in each st and ch across, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next corner ch 2-sp; rep from * 2x, sc in each st and ch across, sl st to beg st. Fasten off.
